Luis B. Marrero designated member of NJ DEC.

Axel O. Velden, Chairman of the New Jersey District Export Council, presented a Certificate of Appointment on behalf of the Secretary Mineta.

Luis B. Marrero, President, Spectra Colors Corporation was designated by Secretary of Commerce Norman Y. Mineta to serve as a member of the New Jersey District Council (NJDEC) to contribute leadership and business experience in support of the Nation’s joint industry export expansion effort.

The Appointment was accepted by Mr. Marrero who received a letter of congratulations from Secretary Mineta welcoming him to a three year term to serve on the Council in order to help local businesspeople meet their international sales objectives and assist the President in advancing national goals.  The Secretary said that Luis’s term comes at a time when the U.S. Department of Commerce is placing increased emphasis on the nationwide DEC network to help increase U.S. exports. During the presentation New Jersey District export Council Chairman Velden said, “Luis has received numerous export awards, is active with various export related organizations, and has a remarkable personal history achieving export success.”

For more than 25 years, District Export Councils (DECs) have served the United States by assisting companies in their local communities export, thus promoting our country’s economic growth and creating new higher-paying jobs for their communities.  DECs volunteer their time to sponsor and participate in numerous trade promotion activities, as well as to supple specialized expertise to small and medium-sized businesses that are interested in exporting.  They create seminars on exporting basics and trade finance, host international buyer delegations, design breakthrough guides to help firms export, put exporters on the Internet and help build export assistance partnerships to strengthen the support given to local businesses interested in exporting.

Luis is the fourteenth individual in New Jersey to receive a Certificate of Appointment this year.
